The Museum curricula offer creative ways to reinforce study topics with real world examples via engaging demonstrations of open pinball machines complete with magnets, electromagnets, switches, linkage, pulleys, gears, target banks, motors and semiconductors. The staff-led group demonstration and discussion include up-close and detailed examination of deconstructed working pinball machines to show the changing technology from the 70s to the present. Featured are two machines of diverse backgrounds; a 1974 Space Lab electro-mechanical pinball machine (the "Interactive Pinball Exhibit") and a modern pinball machine where solid-state circuitry is dominant.

In addition to the live pinball demonstration, campers can learn about the engineering teams behind the games as well as art, design, technical and historical aspects via museum placards atop the over two dozen machines. A captioned pinball documentary also runs on the overhead displays highlighting the continuing evolution of pinball, its impact on our culture, and expressions of art through playfield, cabinet and digital design.

To take part in this once-in-a-lifetime field trip please contact us to check availability (museum EduFun visits must be scheduled in advance). For camps that need to get started earlier, the Museum can open before regular operating hours upon request. Special rates for Title 1 camps and organizations are also available.

The Museum of Modern Pinball is chartered by The State Education Department Board of Regents and is a NYC Department of Education Approved Vendor (#MOD823743) offering STEM, STEAM and science field trips.

"The kids had a blast! I knew they would have fun with the pinball playing part of the visit, but what I really enjoyed was how attentive they were and the great questions they asked during the Edufun experience. Count on us to be back in the summer, and I will spread word to all of our other programs!"
